“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a
new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Awhile back I heard that a relative of mine slighted me,
saying I was "too religious." By definition the word means
"relating to or believing in a religion."
Why do I believe in Christianity? More importantly, why do I
believe in Jesus Christ?
Because Jesus Christ changed my heart and has given me an
inner joy and peace that is unshakable, despite whatever circumstances or
difficulties I may experience in life. Because I saw a steadfast love, joy and
peace in my Mom's life due to her personal relationship with Jesus Christ that was
unmistakable and could not be dismissed. Because my life before I knew Christ
was unsatisfying, devoid of lasting happiness, peace or joy. Because God gave
me hope when I was hopeless. Because try as we might, my wife and I could not
fix our broken marriage and we went through multiple separations and two
divorce proceedings because of our bitter and selfish hearts. Because for the
last 18 years our marriage has been healed and joyous because Jesus Christ
healed our hearts and gave us an unconditional love for each other that was not
possible before. Because I looked at the sin, failures and consequences of my
broken life and knew that I needed a Savior. Because my Savior Jesus revealed
His great love for me and my great need for Him. Because I have seen so many
other people's lives healed and set free by the grace of God. Because I once
was lost but now am found. Because I once was blind but now I see. Because I
have experienced God's love and forgiveness in many, many beautiful and
personal ways over the last two decades. Because He has set me free from
myself, my failures, my shame, and from sin and death.
These are just a few of the reasons that I am "too
religious."
How then can I be silent about what God has done in my life?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
